The following information details the expectations for being a part of the Flowing Wells Girls Basketball Program. Although they may seem tedious, the coaching staff deems them necessary.
TEAM REQUIREMENTS
All
team members are required to participate in fund-raising events.
The
School Requires - Team members must maintain passing grades during the
course of the season. Eligibility
is checked each week. Players on
the ineligible list are required to attend practice during that week, but
are not allowed to travel or participate in games. The first time a player is on the
warning list, they must set up an academic progress plan with their
coach. If a team member is on the
failing list three (3) times, she will be removed from the team.
Being
a team member does not mean you just show up for practice and games. It is a commitment to provide your time
whenever the team deems it necessary.
This includes meetings, team functions, and unexpected practices
that help you prepare to be your best.
You
are a member of the flowing Wells Girls Basketball Team. This
team takes priority over any club team or club. Remember that this is a privilege that
you earned and someone else got cut.
You need to be devoted.
IMAGE
Team members are some of the most visible representatives on
the FWHS campus. A member’s behavior
while in uniform or when recognized as a team member greatly affects the
overall image of the entire squad and its members.
Being a
team member makes you an example for thousands of students. Many times the things you say or the way you
act towards others may be taken as the way all teammates act. This is a position that involves both
tremendous honor and responsibility.
CONDUCT
Profanity
will not be tolerated.
Dissention
among team members will not be tolerated.
Personal conflicts are to be dealt with outside practice time. Our time is limited and we don’t have
practice time to use resolving conflicts.
Suspensions
and In-School-Suspensions will jeopardize a team member’s status on the team.
Detentions,
referrals, etc. will jeopardize a team member’s status on the team.
Excessive
displays of affection will not be tolerated in the basketball forum
(reference student handbook).
No
drinking, smoking, or using drugs will be tolerated. The first violation of this rule will
result in suspension from games for at least two (2) weeks. You are required to practice with the
team, but not participate in games.
The second violation will be dismissal from the team.
Each
team member is expected to maintain a positive attitude at all times. Not everyone can play at the same time,
so if you are on the bench, you need to be supporting your teammates on
the floor.
GAME CONDUCT
Players
are expected to maintain control during the course of a game. Disrespecting other players and
officials will not be tolerated. We
are running a first class program.
Failure to maintain control, which results in a Technical Foul(s)
will be punished with extra conditioning.
During
time-outs, players in the game will sit on the bench. Players on the bench will form a huddle
and need to be listening. Not
paying attention will result in less playing time.
DISCIPLINARY ACTION
Violations
of the Bylaws will be dealt with on an individual basis by the head
coach. The whole team may be disciplined
or the individual may be disciplined.
Examples will include, but not be limited to: a. Extra conditioning b. Loss of playing time c. Benched for "x" amount of games d. Immediate dismissal from team
Continued violations will result in dismissal from the team
Complaint procedures will be as follows: a. Head Coach b. Varsity Head Coach c. Athletic Director d. Principal e. Superintendent
PRACTICE
Freshmen
and JV practice will normally be from 3:45 to 6:00. The Freshman and JV coach has the ability to alter this schedule as they see fit. Varsity practices will normally be from 5:30 to 8:00, but can vary and will include alternative team
meetings that may include: weights, study halls, and film sessions. This is to alleviate the girls from
having to do so much homework after practice. Saturday practices will also be
scheduled. These times will
vary. The Head Coach reserves the right
to add or cancel any practices deemed necessary.
A
member of the coaching staff is responsible for practice plans and will be
present to run the practice.
Conditioning
is part of the sport and team members are expected to keep physically fit
by running as part of each practice, unless excused for medical reasons by
a physician or trainer.
All
team members will be required to wear the specified practice
uniforms. The coach will determine
this. No jewelry, no excessive
clothing that draws attention to one’s self away from the team will be
allowed. If the whole team is
wearing it, it may be allowed with the permission of the head coach.
ALL
PRACTICES ARE CLOSED TO SPECTATORS, UNLESS PREVIOUS ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN
MADE WITH THE COACH. This is to
eliminate distractions for the players and the coaches.
EXCUSES
One
unexcused missed practice or game is reason for disciplinary action.
The
coach will determine legitimate excuses.
Unexcused
Absences: Recoveries, hair
appointments, family parties, work.
WORK WILL NOT BE AN ACCEPTED EXCUSE! You will know the practice schedule far
enough in advance to adjust work schedules, and you have made a commitment
to this team.
Any
team member that is knowingly dishonest to the team or the coach when
offering an excuse will be subject to disciplinary action.
Excused
Absences from practice or games must be in written form at least one week
prior to the absence.
