::::::FIRST NIGHT AT A GLANCE::::::
Never had a chance to see any games in the East gym but for the most part the West Gym was rocking with continuous games every hour and a ton of family and friends moving in and out to watch. New setup this year allowed fans to utilize the center court for seating and viewing pleasure. Brought a baseball center-field feel to the gym as parents set out chairs and enjoyed the games, almost thought a bar-b-que was about to break out.
And what about the games ....
FW-A:
A loss to CDO by 8 points doesn't seem to bad when we consider the CDO team was an actual JV squad with a few in-coming freshman and our A-team was built around a couple 8th graders and in-coming freshman. The girls were instructed from the start to have fun and just play basketball, as the coaching staff really just needed to see them play a game to really know where to go next. After a few practices and some time spent on running an offense the FW-A team should look pretty good and be very competitive towards the end of Summer League. Big shout out to in-coming Frosh Kylie for starting the 2nd half scoring the first 10 points for the team, all on outside shots, and finishing the game with 16+.
FW-B:
Was running around the gym and didn't get a chance to fully view our girls for this game, but our JV squad played well against a good Pusch Ridge team. The B-team had 4-6 of our JV players and was finished with 4-5 of our in-coming freshman all coming together for the first time in an actual game. All played well and as stated above, with a few more practices both A and B should start rolling.
FW-1 & FW-2:
Both teams are Varsity developed with varsity players from last year or juniors that are now in-coming seniors and will have the chance to tryout for the varsity team this upcoming season.
First actual game as a team didn't look to good, but it was to be expected due to the lack of practice and time together as a team. First game was a loss 23-27 to Tucson High. Our team didn't look rattled or stressed but more just disorganized on the floor trying to work together, figuring out floor spots and roles and running the offense correctly. It also didn't help that this game was used as our warm-up for shooting as the first half only saw us score 8 points.
Oh what a warm-up game can do for you ...
Second game was a huge difference. A big 60-21 win over Casa Grande was trullyl propelled by the defense and press. Easy baskets came left and right from proper trapping and fast break play. The team also had a much better time shooting as 3-pt goals and all other outside shots started to finally go in.
Third and final game of the night followed suit with the second game as pressure defense and full court pressure led to a 56-24 win over San Carlos. Rebounding was also a key in this game and it looks like with some practice and more importantly dedication this team could be a tremendous rebounding and defensive team this season. Will be fun to see what happens!
